What the Business Needs: the Business Requirements
In this group of services we work with clients to accomplish the following objectives:
First, to identify the Business Requirement that is to be satisfied by the new or modified computer system. This is the Desired Business Outcome and is a statement of the value or result that the project under consideration is expected to deliver. The statement may be grounded in legal, financial, strategic or other considerations.
Second, to understand the ways that current business data and processes may be contributing to the need for the Business Requirement and its ramifications. Processes that were optimal at one stage of the organization's development may no longer be so And, third, to identify the ways in which the business will be affected by implementation of the Business Requirement - whether in organization, information needs or processes.
And, finally, to ensure that the feasibility of the proposed project is documented appropriately and that the appropriate business case is made for the project.
We provide these services as part of the initial phases of any project for which we are engaged by a client. However, we can evaluate a completed project or assess a project currently under way, in which case we will examine earlier decisions and the information that led to them.
